Hello and welcome to today's Kingston #AllOurHealth tweetchat on Air Pollution Lets get started straight away with QUESTION 1 What information do you currently share with patients and families re air pollution ? https://t.co/C2uR0WFeaf
@tee_2001xx
22 April 2021 09:01
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth air pollution quality is as bad indoor as it is outdoors, and can affect children and young people
@ArgentShanae
22 April 2021 09:02
@WeLearnOutLoud We share information on the effects of air pollution and how to improve it whether this be at home indoors or outside to help protect vulnerable groups #AllOurHealth
@TimeaWe
22 April 2021 09:02
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth I haven't had a chance yet however I have learnt a lot during this module and I would be able to do so either with outdoor and indoor air pollution.
@TaraMor50572903
22 April 2021 09:03
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth to be honest I only thought of air pollution in terms of respiratory disease and had not considered indoor air pollution. I would look at a patients environment and discuss how some changes could help.

RT @WeLearnOutLoud: Hello and welcome to today's Kingston #AllOurHealth tweetchat on Air Pollution Lets get started straight away with QU…
@aimzjordan
22 April 2021 09:09
@WeLearnOutLoud If I'm entirely honest, I have never spoken to patients about air pollution ?? but am here to learn and change this! #allourhealth
@TimeaWe
22 April 2021 09:09
@TaraMor50572903 @WeLearnOutLoud Yes, same here. I have never thought about how harmful indoor air pollution could be. Definitely I will do better from now on. #allourhealth
@WeLearnOutLoud

QUESTION 2 What are the barriers to sharing information about air pollution with patients and families? #AllOurHealth Kingston https://t.co/Xhymr2zY44
@tee_2001xx
22 April 2021 09:11
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth I might not be educated as much as I should be, to be sharing information with patients and families . Only until recently was I checking the air pollution forecast. I will need to to some training on it
@ArgentShanae
22 April 2021 09:12
@WeLearnOutLoud Language is major barrier because it can be difficult to communicate concerns. As well as, education not everyone would be able to understand information especially children #AllOurHealth
@TaraMor50572903
22 April 2021 09:14
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth the barriers are the same as in any other circumstance, language & mental capacity being the main ones, for example, does a patient need information given in a simpler format rather than a wordy document, would an interpreter or use of language line be beneficial?
@aimzjordan
22 April 2021 09:18
@tee_2001xx @WeLearnOutLoud I certainly do too ?? I wonder if we are able to complete the welearn air pollution course without being a university student? #WeNurses #allourhealth As it asks for a code to start the course
@WeLearnOutLoud
22 April 2021 09:20
QUESTION 3 What is the best approach to take when sharing information with patients and families re air pollution? #AllOurHealth Kingston https://t.co/avNzpTeMHO
@tee_2001xx
22 April 2021 09:22
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth the best way could be by sharing podcasts from specialists that discuss how air pollution is affecting the younger generation and many individuals today, and encouraging the patients and families to check on the forecast in their area
@TaraMor50572903
22 April 2021 09:22
@WeLearnOutLoud #allourhealth my approach would depend on who I was talking with. Everyone is different and has different levels of understanding or willingness to receive the information. All I can do is advise in the best way possible.
@ArgentShanae
22 April 2021 09:22
@WeLearnOutLoud Using personalised strategies to each individual patient may be more beneficial. For example, if sharing information via phone is easier for the younger generation but have a leaflet available that may be easier for the older generation #AllOurHealth
@aimzjordan
22 April 2021 09:24
@WeLearnOutLoud I think one of the ways we could educate on air pollution as a whole would be to aim health promotion at school age children. Particularly secondary school pupils. They are not yet set in their ways and have choices they can make which will impact their future #Allourhealth
@WeLearnOutLoud
22 April 2021 09:25
And finally ... When and where should information re air pollution be shared with patients and their families?? #AllOurHealth Kingston https://t.co/Chz4PjUOrM
@ArgentShanae
22 April 2021 09:28
@WeLearnOutLoud This information to help families should be used whenever and wherever appropriate. The signs of air pollution should be understood at home, in the community or work and should be taught about in education #AllOurHealth
@TimeaWe
22 April 2021 09:28
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth Educate people, talk to them and share with them our knowledge. Asking open ended questions is a way to find out how much the person we are talking to are aware of the issue.
@tee_2001xx
22 April 2021 09:29
@WeLearnOutLoud #AllOurHealth it can be shared by the patient and families’ best preferred way to receive information, to allow them to perceive the information well
